With everything happening in our world currently, what’s the next step for law firms? The past few months have displayed experiences people would not have thought possible at the beginning of the year. Things are trying to get back to “normal”, however, today’s “normal” does not have the same meaning it did six months ago.
Law firms are opening their offices as safely as possible. So, what has changed?
- Has your firm grown?
- Are you downsizing your firm, or maybe the square footage?
- What will the Management Team and Support Staff look like?
- How are you allocating your money this year without travel budgets, office expenses, etc.?
- Do you have sufficient hardware and software to interact with today’s client?
Attorneys have made some adjustments as well. Overnight, you became IT wizards. It’s rather impressive that attorneys and staff have navigated the transition with minor interruptions. What will your future look like?
- Are you more productive working from home or in the office?
- How resourceful have you been without all your tools at your fingertips?
- How have your research habits changed?
- What will you do differently when scheduling meetings?
- What can your office reduce or eliminate with the new “rules” in play?
What’s the Next Step?
Where there is change, there is opportunity. There may be smaller firms that want to consolidate with larger ones using economies of scale or maybe just sublet office space. Then there are larger firms who may want to expand in size and practice areas. It’s good to know what your peers are doing.
Bottom line, lawyers just want to work and take care of their clients. Not everything will be the same when you get back to the office. Some things will be for the better and some might take getting used to. You’ve been working away from the office for a while and some of your office routines may be in for a slight adjustment. Now is a good time to have solid business partners.
